Since the inception of Riverton High School in 1999, the Riverton High Band Program has rapidly established a reputation for excellence and innovation in all areas of music education. Throughout its twelve-year existence, the band program at Riverton High has grown to include a Symphonic Band, Concert Band, Advanced Percussion Ensemble, Intermediate Percussion Ensemble, Varsity Jazz Big Band, J.V. Jazz Lab Band, New Orleans Second-Line Brass Band, Steel Drum Band, Marching Band, Drum Line, Colorguard, and numerous chamber ensembles and jazz combos. Riverton Band Students consistently distinguish themselves through participation in local, Region, and State Solo & Ensemble Festivals, as well as through performances with University Honor Ensembles, All-State Band & Orchestra, All-State Jazz Ensemble, Independent Honors Jazz Ensembles such as the Crescent Super Band, La Onda Caribeña, the New Voodoo Swing Orchestra, the Soul Research Foundation, and many others. Since 2006, more than 70% of the instrumental music students (including band and orchestra) in our region who have qualified for advancement to the State Solo & Ensemble Festival have come from the band program at Riverton High School. Ensembles representing the band program at Riverton High School are consistently awarded “Superior” and “Excellent” ratings at their respective State Festivals.
