Join Us at Lagoon Amusement Park!!!

Let’s let loose and have some fun to celebrate the hard work put forth by students and staff this summer, and ride the rides at Lagoon! The marching band will spend the day at Lagoon Amusement Park in Farmington on Wednesday, July 27. We will meet at Riverton High School at 9:15am, and the bus(es) will hit the road as close to 9:45 as possible. The park opens at 11:00am and closes at 10:00pm. Our Lagoon Day will include an all-you-can-eat BBQ dinner (Burgers, Dogs, Pasta Salad, Chips, Raspberry Jello “Surprise,” and soft drinks) at 5:30pm. Parents, siblings, family & friends are welcome to take advantage of this special group discount and join us for this day of fun at the park! Cost for participation is $38 per person. This includes the $27.95 All-day Passport (reduced from $43.95 regular price) + $10 All-You-Can-Eat Great American BBQ. Bus transportation will be provided to all band students courtesy of the Riverton High Band Program. Families who prefer to drive up on their own should know that parking at Lagoon costs $8 per vehicle. In order to avoid being overcharged for our group–and to make sure we have the right number of buses–all interested students and families must pre-register by paying $38 into the “Marching Band” account in the Riverton High School main office BY MONDAY, JULY 18th. (We need to commit to a minimum for the dinner by the 20th, so please don’t miss this deadline!) This will be a GREAT opportunity for our students to get to know each other better, and to just have some fun before we go into two weeks of hard work at band camp. We hope you’ll all plan on attending!

Riverton Parade Details

Date: Friday, July 1, 2011

Call Time: 5:30 PM

Begins at: LDS Chapel Park (1930 West 13400 South)

Ends at: Riverton City Park (12800 South 1300 West)

The Riverton parade will take place in the evening on July 2. There is often confusion about which LDS chapel band members should meet at.  It is the one closest to Redwood Rd. on 13400 South.  Floats and equestrian entries check in a little farther west on 13400 So. And parade personnel don’t always know where to direct students.

As always, it is crucial that students arrive early to avoid road closures.  Following the parade, there will be festivities at the Riverton City Park.

South Jordan Parade Details

Date: Saturday, June 18, 2011

Call Time: 8:00 AM

Begins at: Town Center Drive (10600 So Redwood Rd), near “THE PIE” Pizzeria.

Ends at: So. Jordan City Park (Canterwood Dr. between 2200 W and Redwood)

The South Jordan parade will take place in the morning on June 18. Parents should drop students off in the Southeast corner of the large parking lot in front of Harmons.

As always, it is crucial that students arrive early to avoid road closures.  The Parade will proceed south on Redwood Rd., then west on 10960 South around the recreation center, and will conclude at South Jordan City Park.

Fort Herriman Days Parade & Summer Newsletter

Date: Saturday, June 11, 2011

Call Time: 8:00 AM Begins at: Herriman Elementary(13170 South 6050 West) Ends at: Butterfield Park (6400 West 14200 South)

(Here is a map from RHS to Herriman Elementary then Butterfield Park.)

The Herriman Town Days parade will be the marching band’s first parade of the summer. The Herriman parade route is rather hilly, so it is important thatstudents arrive well-rested and well-hydrated so that we may minimize muscle cramping and dehydration.

Parents are strongly urged to drop students off at the beginning of the parade route, Herriman Elementary School in this case, and then park at the end of the route and then park where the parade will conclude. (Butterfield Park for the Fort Herriman Days Parade.)

Again, it is crucial that students arrive on-time (if not early) to the elementary school to avoid road closures.

Students will not have access to the high school, so think ahead and make sure that you have everything that you need beforehand.

Band BBQ 2011

Its that time of the year again folks! Its approaching the time for the Band BBQ again!

Mr. Fallon has planned the BBQ for Monday – May 16, 2011 beginning at 5:30 PM. It will take place at the Riverton City Park “Old Pavilion,” located at 1400 West and 12800 South. Those interested in attending must RSVP by Thursday – May 16 by paying $5 for each person in the Main Office at the high school. (Ask the secretaries to place the receipt in Mr. Fallon’s box.) Marching Band Stepping Off!

Come to the Marching Band “Step Off” Meeting at Riverton High School on Wednesday, April 6 at 6:00PM.  Students – We will discuss the music and show concept for the 2011 season, the summer and fall performance schedules, and the possibility of an overnight trip at the conclusion of the marching season. Parents – We will discuss the fees associated with involvement in the Marching Band as well as the payment structure and fund-raising options.  We will also discuss the Wasatch Front Marching Band Invitational, the competition that we will host in October.  Most importantly, Mr. Fallon will answer your questions…especially for those parents and students considering getting involved in Marching Band at Riverton High School for the first time.  We’re getting very excited about the 2011 season and can’t wait to hit the ground running!  We hope to see you there!

Audition Information and Other News

Mr. Fallon has posted the sign-ups for audition times. Students that are interested in participating in the advanced ensembles must sign-up for an audition time. Auditions are March 28, 29, & 30, and are by appointment only.

Students must bring their instrument and be prepared to play the required audition music. The audition music can be found at the Audition Music page. Be sure that you download Version B for your correct instrument.

Also, congratulations to those that qualified for State Solo and Ensemble. They put forth a tremendous amount of effort and should be proud of their accomplishment. And thanks to those that helped with the PAS Day of Percussion. It was a huge success and a ton of fun for all that attended.

Finally, a quick reminder for those in the Jazz Bands. This Friday and Saturday (March 25 and 26) is the State Jazz Festival. Mr. Fallon will provide the information that you need for that festival, if he hasn’t already.
